It is a gloomy and wet day here on the farm but we are happy and satisfied with our work. We just finished harvesting our first turkeys and geese for the holidays, and they are looking fabulous. We had some equipment hiccups, but all in all the weather was nice, we had some excellent helping hands, and our birds look beautiful. Regardless of the trials and tribulations life throws at you, positivity is a strong force that can turn a grey day into a great day.
Our lovely pasture raised geese are dressing out at about 10 pounds each with an amazing layer of goose fat. We are very excited about trying one for ourselves. Sometimes we are so busy we don’t even get a chance to try our own products – but we will make time to roast up a delicious goose for pre-Thanksgiving dinner for sure. We love raising these great and majestic birds.
Well folks, now is the time to get your order in for either a goose or turkey. When all is said and done, everything we do on our farm comes down to a few days of harvesting or processing every month, and this is one of our big harvesting times. Supporting us is not hard: You get the best food you will ever taste from the happiest animals that ever lived.
We hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving! We will be posting our tips and tricks for cooking the best Thanksgiving in the coming days – Check back often!
Thanksgiving is coming up, the snow is flying already. We’re wrapping up the fall garden and delivering very delicious CSA boxes full of the bounty. It’s been a whirlwind of a season, and now we prepare for the final harvest days of the year. We are taking reservations for our Turkeys and Geese, both all organically fed and raised on pasture. Let us know ASAP if you’d like to reserve one or both. The turkeys will be 12-15 lbs and the geese around 10 lbs. We harvest them ourselves, on the farm they know and are comfortable on, and they will be available for pickup the weekend before Thanksgiving. Present a masterpiece of a bird for your holiday dinner, one you can tell the story of! Not many birds served for the Holiday Dinner grew up living a life on pasture in the sun and grass, and you will not find an organic holiday goose anywhere!
We pastured birds out in our hayfield this year. It had it’s pluses and it’s minuses. They had tons of room, and fresh pasture each week, but we had issues with them being so far from our farm-base. We literally ended up camping out there with them each night for 3 months straight to ward off nighttime predators. What farmers do that?! We do!Now that the cold has really come, we’ve moved the turkeys into the hoophouse to help clear out the summer’s plant growth in there, and for them to focus on fattening up. On pasture, the turkeys were constantly running around so much they weren’t gaining much weight! Our young geese are now full grown and are living on a portion of our garden, honking across the valley and flapping their wings wildly all day long, adding fertility with the help of our morsel seeking and dirt scratching flock of heritage roosters. We believe it is very important to enrich and expand the bio-diversity of our soil, while letting our birds live happy and natural lives outdoors, doing what they love to do best.
Soon we’ll be opening up our 2014 Season CSA for memberships. We’ve gotten SO MUCH GOOD FEEDBACK on our share boxes, it’s just wonderful to know our members are so happy with what they receive from our farm. We make our CSA boxes full and beautiful, as they reflect our farm and our attitudes about life. Our specialty is a “Once-A-Month Box” featuring our Duck Eggs, all kinds of seasonal chemical free produce, apples, wildcrafted bouquets, fresh herbs, and handmade goatmilk soaps. Details will be posted soon!
The famous LTD Farm Thanksgiving Turkeys and soon to be famous Holiday Geese are here and growing up! We’re preparing for Thanksgiving by raising our organic and pastured birds for you.
I don’t think there is any farm that loves raising turkeys as much as we do! They are noble and dear birds who thrive on pasture, and feed us such bountiful nourishment. You can have an extra amazing Thanksgiving Dinner with one of our special turkeys, a delicious centerpiece that has a beautiful story behind it. If you’ve never tried a fresh, organic & pastured turkey before- you, the family and friends are in for a real Thanksgiving treat!
Our turkeys are fed 100% organic feed, as well as an “all you can eat salad bar” pasture. We raise them much longer than is typical, so they develop extra incredibly delicious flavor and grow into plump beasts. The weekend before Thanksgiving, we harvest them by hand, with respect and care, and then our customers come to pick up their fresh turkey and have a farm visit! It’s become a yearly tradition, which is very special to us and our customers. Come join us, we take turkey reservations with your deposit. Just email us for the sign up form. Last year we sold out early-These turkeys are really that much better! They are $3.50/lb average weight 20 lbs. We will also have a VERY limited number of organically fed and pastured heritage breed turkeys available as well for $8/lb, average weight 10-16lbs.
Our 20 goslings are growing by leaps and bounds, and we just adore their personalities! They are all outdoors now, being moved inside playpens to fresh grass several times a day. Soon they will be living with the young turkeys out in the big pasture in our hayfield, surrounded by electronet, keeping an eye on things and grazing their hearts out. While geese really prefer to fill up on grass, they are also given a 100% organic grain feed. Let us know if you want to reserve a plump, pastured & organically fed young Holiday goose- we are probably the only farm where you can find this unique combination of goodness! They will be harvested by hand on the farm by us, with gentleness and gratitude. $8/lb, average weigh 10 lbs
