harvest preparation

Spending time with the crazy, joyful turkeys this morning. They’ve been put into a new paddock alongside my driveway- have to use all the space out here that I can! I am preparing myself for their harvest coming up at the end of June. However, everyday I have with them is enjoyed so much.100_3460

This poem is very special to me, an excerpt from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet:

When you kill a beast say to him in your heart,

“By the same power that slays you, I too too am slain; and I too shall be consumed.

For the law that delivered you into my hand shall deliver me into a mightier hand.

Your blood and my blood is naught but the sap that feeds the tree of heaven.”

oooh the prophet, havent picked it up since highschool! such a good classic book. we human animals are predators but also prey. eventually we will become apart of the earth, whether in the form of a tibetan sky ceremonial "burial", in ashes, in the dirt... it is as Jessica Prentice puts it in her beautiful book, Full Moon Feast, more eloquently then i "an adult knowledge", the life-death-life cycle. here is a blog you may find interesting, its by a former vegan and he interviews formers vegans on his site. he's quiten unapologetic, to say the least so to the more easily offended folks- don't read his stuff. http://letthemeatmeat.com/
