my CSA will be starting soon!
Confessions of a Duck Egg Addict
by Sue
I met Khaiti at River Market’s CSA event where she was promoting a share of two dozen duck eggs and two bars of goat milk soap a month. Although I had never eaten a duck egg or considered an egg share I was drawn in by the curiosity of it all and some good karma. Before committing I asked to try one. A few days later I had a couple of stunningly gorgeous thick-shelled almost opalescent eggs cupped in my hands. I knew I was holding real food; the freshest eggs layed by healthy happy ducks living outdoors as nature intended. The eggs have an amazing eggy flavor and texture. They have a density and thickness that bespeaks of health and makes chicken eggs pale in comparison. After one fried duck egg on toast, I was hooked. Each egg is like an egg and a half making it the perfect portion size. I am now patiently waiting for the longer days of spring when these happy quackers start producing again.
The goat milk soap was another wonder. I had enough from my share to last the winter and to give as gifts. The big surprise was when I had the ‘ah ha’ moment and tried if out as shampoo. It works great, so no more plastic bottles with unrecognizable chemicals. One look at Khaiti’s hair and I should have known.
Next came the feta. Mid summer I found out that there was fresh goat milk feta to be had from the farm. YUMM…. There is rarely a day where there is not a jar of this smooth flavorful cheese in my fridge.
I was one of the lucky few with the honor of roasting a couple of ducks from Khaiti’s farm. These were the male ducks from the eggs that were hatched to increase the flock. They were raised with love and harvested with compassion and were one richest, most flavorful food experiences that I have had. I have Khaiti to thank for a summer of eating food that is delicious, healthy and locally raised!
My 22 lb Thanksgiving turkey that I was able to get up close and personal with this fall is another story…

“living the dream” Farm Share CSA program
My farm is a micro-eco farm, where I farm sustainably on a very small scale, with kindness and respect for all my animals. I offer a variety of share options, my main focus being duck eggs, fresh greens and goatmilk soap. I also offer farmstead goat cheese as a cheese share. On L.T.D. Farm I raise and hand process free range turkeys and ducklings, free range pigs and kid goats, and host workshops, special farm-based dinners and events. Check out my website www.ltdfarm.com
Never had duck eggs before? Be prepared for their richly flavored, delicious goodness! My duck eggs have the most beautiful orange yolks you have ever seen! Duck eggs can often be enjoyed by those who are allergic to chicken eggs. My lovely ducks live cage free year round, love baths in their tub, hunting for tasty morsels in the weeds and chasing the cat! I feed them a transitional organic feed, as well as garden greens, weeds, and whatever else they find as they hunt through the grasses in their yard. They are very happy little ducks!
My homemade goatmilk soap is made from my own goat’s milk! The old fashioned soap recipe I use is non-drying, with a beautiful lather, leaving your skin satiny smooth. I use essential oils lightly to offer an assortment of scents. My farmstead cheese specialty is feta, unbelieveably good, but the cheese share will include other types as well. The “green garden” bag is a great option if you don’t want a whole box of veggies. The main item will be greens throughout the season.
My Farm Share CSA season runs for 8 months starting April 3th through November 6th. Pickup is at the River Market Co-op in Stillwater. You can choose from an every-other week share, or just once a month. In the CSA model (community supported agriculture), customers pay the farmer upfront for the product they will receive for the season. You help me by paying upfront so I can invest in the feed, animals and other expenses ahead of time. You also bear some of the risk involved with farming. If there are any problems I ‘ll do my best to substitute products, or may issue partial refunds.
Farm Share CSA options- We can customize your share, ask me for pricing. Add a turkey for an additional $50, and/or fresh duckling for $20 each.
