a pizza, baked in my well seasoned cast iron pan, with tapenade, nettles, feta, tomatoes I canned and finished in the last minutes under a broiler with a duck egg perched on top...oh dear, what amazingness!

the same pizza, after I ate half and had to take a picture it was so so so good!

How lucky I am to be raising food I absolutely adore. This was quite intentional, as why would I be farming any other way? Follow your passions. Duck eggs were an absolute surprise for me. I had tried some before, but they were not nearly as amazing as the first ones from my first ducks. Instant Passion!  I knew a good thing when I first tasted my own duck eggs, and this has lead me to where I am now….raising these beautious duck eggs for the Twin Cities community to savor and go ga-ga over! The special touch I have for caring for my lady ducks, their free ranging life in the sun and fresh air, the organic feed they eat and greens they get, all the foraging they do- this all makes for a supreme duck egg product. One which I am EXTREMELY proud to be offering. DUCK EGGS rule my world.

chaos, mayhem …..and then total calm

It is reassuring to know that animals, once their basic needs are taken care of, generally can take of things on their own. Today I came home from a day at my job, off the farm, to a beautious new baby born and toddling around under her momma’s watchful care. That’s my Catalpa, who was actually the very first little goat born on the farm three years ago. She was looking so gigantic this spring I thought she might have triplets! But not at all- one big baby girl, who is so healthy, strong and gorgeous- it is unbelieveable!

I have to say that spring is a most amazing and humbling time of year for me. Babies coming left and right. Desti’s twins born on Saturday are absolutely adorable!

The ducks are laying and people are loving their eggs! They are selling out at Seward Co-op, and making a regular appearance on the menu at Heartland Restaurant, as well as being savored by all my excellent CSA customers. Since I love those duck eggs so much, I knew it was only a matter of time before I’d bring everyone on board! I’m lucky to even have one for breakfast, they are selling so fast! The lady ducks are laying now, but the new gals are still gearing up to start full on laying. You have to wait until they reach this magical age when they begin laying. The Khaki Campbell duck is gorgeous to behold, and very entertaining, very talkative.
